From 1st October 2023, the duty holder responsibilities apply to all construction projects where building regulations apply including domestic projects.

The duty holder role of the Building Regulations Principal Designer (BRPD) is critical during the design stage of a project. The primary responsibility of the BRPD is to plan, manage, and monitor all design work to ensure compliance with the relevant requirements of the building regulations. To perform these duties effectively, the BRPD must possess a comprehensive set of competencies and have the desired Skills, Knowledge, Experience and Behaviors in order to fulfill the duty holder role.
