extra care | supported living

The unique demands of 21st-century care necessitate an original and creative approach for each individual project and Zebra prides itself on its creative vision to improve quality of life.  We understand that good design has a positive impact on our health, and our schemes achieve that delicate balance of feeling at home, the need for safety and independence, careful detailing to minimise risk and maximise the sense of belonging, connections with nature and others, and avoiding an institutional feel.

Zebra have designed for the disabled and elderly, nursing and mental illness, autism spectrum disorder, and the unique challenges that each present.  We've created attractive bespoke homes and multi-unit schemes which are comfortable, distinctive, accessible, and safe.

CASE STUDY | THE MOORS, KIDLINGTON

Type: 54 extra-care apartments with supported living amenities

Set across a two- and three-storey building, this bespoke facility is designed with a traditional appearance to create a sense of home and belonging, its mass broken by strong design features.  The 54 apartments and guest facilities are connected by generous, light corridors to an array of communal amenities including a lounge, restaurant, laundry, activities room, hairdressing salon, and an assisted bathing suite.

Each apartment has a visual link with nature, and the generous communal gardens which surround the building complement its natural setting.  The design achieved a BREEAM Very Good rating and is now tenanted by The Order of St Johns.

careful detailing breaks the building down into elements, providing identity and a sense of place
